Help

Game crashing or can't log in? Send us your logs.

One paste makes a single file on your Desktop with everything we need to find the cause. It works even when the game won't start, takes about a minute, and we send nothing anywhere – it stays on your PC until you post it.

Do this on the PC you play on. Bookmark this page or open newschool99.com/help/logs there.

Game still opens? You can skip the steps below. After a crash, the “closed unexpectedly” window has Save logs to my Desktop, and the login screen’s Settings has Send us your logs. Both make the same file, no PowerShell needed.

  1. Step 1: Open PowerShell

Click Start (or press the Windows key), type powershell and press Enter.

A blue or black window opens with a line ending in >.

    Type powershell, press Enter.
  2. Step 2: Paste this line and press Enter

powershell -NoProfile -Command "try{[Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol=3072}catch{}; irm https://newschool99.com/help/logs/ns99-logs.txt | iex"

Only paste commands from this page, newschool99.com/help/logs.

Click inside the PowerShell window, press Ctrl+V (or right-click), then Enter.

After a few seconds it says Done! and a folder opens with your file highlighted: NS99-logs-<date>-<time>.zip.

If you see red text, or This PC does not let the log tool run, or blocked by your antivirus software, or nothing happens – use Do it by hand below.

    This is what you'll see.
  3. Step 3: Post the file in #bug-reports

Click New Post and give it a short title (for example Game closes when I enter the world).

Drag the NS99-logs file in, and tell us what you were doing and when it happened. A helper replies in your post.

New Post, drag the file in, say what happened.

What's in the file

  • Your game's own logs: the launcher and game logs, crash reports, and the crash-recovery and graphics settings.
  • Your PC basics: Windows version and language, time zone, processor, memory, graphics card and driver version, free disk space.
  • The crash records and graphics-driver resets Windows kept for New School 99 (which part crashed and its error code).
  • A README.txt that explains all of it.

You can open the zip before posting: everything inside is plain text.

What we hide, and what we don't

  • Your password. The game never writes it into these files.
  • Your Windows user name, PC name, game login (when the game has remembered it), emails and IP addresses become <user>, <pc>, <account>, <email> and <ip>.
  • We do not collect your browser data, documents, pictures or screenshots, other programs' files, or memory dumps.
  • We do list the file names of other programs that were loaded into the game (overlays or antivirus, because they often cause crashes). Nothing else from them.
  • The tool reads files and writes one zip. We send nothing anywhere and change nothing on your PC. (If your Desktop syncs to OneDrive, the zip also lands in your own OneDrive.)

Can't run it? Do it by hand
  1. Press Windows+R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\NewSchool99\logs and press Enter.
  2. Drag client.log, client.1.log and launcher.log into your post in #bug-reports.
  3. If the game showed a crash window, press Windows+R again, type %USERPROFILE%\.newschool99\logs and add the newest crash-….txt file.

These files can show your Windows user name and other players' names. Open them in Notepad first if that matters to you.

See exactly what the tool does

The line you paste downloads this script from newschool99.com and runs it. Here it is in full.

The SHA-256 is the file's fingerprint, shown so you can see what you are running. The official one is pinned in #bug-reports.

Do I need to be an admin?

No. It runs as you, like any program you open.

Will it change or slow down my PC?

No. It reads files for a few seconds and writes one zip. Nothing is installed and nothing else changes.

My antivirus warned me. What now?

Some antivirus distrusts any pasted PowerShell command. Use the by-hand steps instead.

Does it work on Mac or Linux?

Windows only for now. Post in #bug-reports and a helper will tell you which files to send.
